TSUNAMI : Criminal Charges brought by French Families
Following the Tsunami of the 26th of December 2004, the Victims Support Association and the Families of 30 victims press criminal charges for unintentional manslaughter and professional negligence.

Monday 5th of September, 10.45am Paris.

At the Law Courts of Paris, 34 Quai des Orfevres

Still in people’s minds is the Tsunami that devastated South East Asia and provoked an unprecedented human disaster. Amongst the countries hit ; Thailand’s case was severe, with thousands of Thai residents and foreign tourists of which many were from France, lost their lives.

Nearly half of the French tourists who perished were guests of the SOFITEL Khao-Lak resort which was managed by the French group ACCOR. The number of victims in this hotel is by far the worst case not only in Thailand but also all around South East Asia. More than eight months after the disaster, many significant questions remain for the relatives of these victims. Based on precise and detailed facts these charges are intended to reveal the truth concerning the tragedy that occurred at the SOFITEL Khao-Lak.

Mr G. CHEMLA, lawyer based in Reims, will represent the families and present the charges to the Deputy Prosecutor, Mr BENEY in Paris. In the presence of the families, Mr CHEMLA will reply to all questions concerning these charges.
